Storage Tips
- Storage of hazardous material, flammable goods, explosives, animals and perishable food is strictly prohibited.
- Reserve a storage unit in advance to ensure availability.
- Notify Abacus Self Storage of any address or phone number change.
- Label boxes and keep a list of the contents.
- Cover large furniture using bed sheets or plastic drop sheets.
- Organize the unit for easy access to things that might be needed while in storage.
- Pack boxes so that they are easy to stack.
- Use the 9` height of the unit to save floor space. For example, stand couches on end and stack boxes.
- Read the self storage agreement carefully.
- Remember your storage unit payment due date.
- Wrap fragile items.
- Ensure that all appliances are clean and empty.
- Check to see if your current insurance policy covers goods in storage. If not, insurance is available on a monthly basis.
- Please advise in advance when the unit is being vacated.
- Keep the weight of individual boxes under 30 lb.
- Where possible, remove legs from furniture.
- Line the interior of boxes containing delicate or more valuable items.
- Remove batteries from camera`s, flashlights, etc.
- If available, use the original cartons for television sets, stereos, computers, etc.
- Use bubble wrap to fill empty space in boxes.
- Empty lawnmowers of oil and gas and wrap in heavy plastic to prevent leakage or damage to your other items.
- Organize a checklist related to your move. For example, change utilities, telephones, address at post office, etc.
